Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The media product challenged the convention of having a good-looking, athletic, male protagonist. Alternatively, one of the protagonists was a slightly overweight man, however this does follow the convention of many comedies such as "The Goonies" which has a fat kid to create humour when he does the 'truffle shuffle'.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
One of the protagonist characters is played by a black actor. Black people have been generalised and labelled as less intelligent, however our media product represented a black person as intelligent in order to convey a social message of equality.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
BBC Three may distribute our product as they have a similar target audience to us. They also target an audience of young adults and have many comedy television programmes and movies such as Family Guy and Russell Howard's Good News.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The audience for our media product would be young (16-25 year olds) working class (C2/D/E) males. We used actors that met this criteria and subject matter that this group would find humorous and be able to relate to.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We used non-diagetic music that we found from our focus groups attract our target audience. We also featured a "that's what she said" joke, which young men find very funny. We used actors that mirror the target audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Before I started the course I had no idea how to use the Premiere Pro editing software, but I am now able to use it with ease, cutting clips, adding sound, editing volume, adding titles and transitions. I also learnt how to use the mac computer after a life of only using pc and now feel very comfortable using the mac.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Since the preliminary task my editing skills have improved a lot. I have now learnt how to put transitions from one shot to another and how to add titles. I have learnt the importance of the 180 degree rule and the effectiveness of camera movement. I have learnt how to make the subject matter the expectations of a specific target audience and the conventions of a genre.

Editing the Clip

I am starting to reach the end of the editing process on Adobe Premiere Pro. I have cut clips, added transitions between them, changed the speed of the clips, added non-diegetic sound to the video, changed the volume of clips and added titles.

Auditioning Process

We held auditions in order to find the actors to star in our film, which we as a group felt our target audience of working class men aged 16-25 would positively respond to. With our genre being comedy, we wanted to find two actors that we felt would be able to follow the script and make our audience laugh. Quite a few actor met our criteria, but as a group we had to decide what two actors we would have to narrow it down to. We told the actors that were successful, and debriefed those who auditions but did not make the final cut letting them down gently and keeping their spirits high.

Focus Group Feedback

After presenting our preliminary task to an audience of 16-18 year olds, who all fit into our target audience, we asked them to give us feedback in order for us to get the right idea of what we need to do to meet expectations of our target audience for the final task of a two minute movie introduction.

The focus group suggested that the preliminary tasks had some decent camera shots, but lacked camera movement, however it was edited well. The music at the beginning was praised, but the content was criticised as the dialogue was said to have been very brief and quite dull, however the sound was very clear.

As a company, we at Super Dench have agreed that we need to keep up what we were praised on, but need to work on some areas that were mentioned. We promise to make sure our future productions have more interesting content and camera movement.
